The Broadmoor East Course

Spencer Penrose contacted renowned architect Donald Ross in 1916 to design an eighteen-hole golf course for the magnificent property he was dreaming up. Ross, who had designed golf courses for several of the top golf clubs in the country, declared The BROADMOOR course his 'best work'.

When completed in 1918, BROADMOOR East course was the highest golf course in the United States at 6,400 feet in elevation. It is now a combination of the original Donald Ross design mixed with holes designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1952.

It has been home to many major tournaments, including the 1959 U.S. Amateur, which was Jack Nicklaus' first major win, the 1964 U.S. Amateur, 1995 U.S. Women's Open, which was Annika Sorenstam's first major title. Most recently, it served as the host course for the 2008 U.S. Senior Open won by Eduardo Romero. We will again host another USGA major championship, The 2011 U. S. Women's Open Championship.

Course Description

The East Course is known for its wide fairways and large greens. With tree-lined fairways and amazing mountain views, The BROADMOOR East Course is ranked among the best in the country.

With large trees that can alter your shots, and putting greens that can be difficult to read, the best tip we can offer for this open course is to remember that putts break away from the mountains.

The Broadmoor West Course

A combination of the original 1918 Donald Ross design and the Robert Trent Jones Sr. 1964 design, the West Course offers our guests a challenging course with spectacular views.
• Holes 1-6 - Donald Ross
• Holes 7-14 - Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
• Holes 15-18 - Donald Ross

The West Course was the host site of the 1998 PGA Cup Matches.

At 6,800 feet, this 18-hole course has more doglegs and steeply-angled greens, and is higher in elevation than the East Course. The rolling fairways and multilevel greens overlook both the city and the mountains.

The West Course plays tighter off the tee, with more heavily tree-lined holes than the East Course, and also gives the player many spectacular approach shots. Huge, formidable sand bunkers seem to be everywhere, and water hazards enhance three of the par threes.

Don't let the stunning mountain views distract you while on this course. The doglegs and steeply-angled greens make for a very challenging round of golf.

THe Broadmoor Mountain Course

In 1959, Jack Nicklaus won his first national title and first major championship, the US Amateur Championship, on the links at THE BROADMOOR. Now, 49 years later, his company, Nicklaus Design, brings the legacy full-circle, with a redesign of one of the most beloved BROADMOOR golf venues, the Mountain Course. Working in collaboration with Nicklaus Design, a wonderfully scenic and playable golf course has been created. It gives the appearance of being in place since the opening of the property in 1918.

The renovated Mountain Course plays to a maximum of 7,700 yards, par 72. The course features wide, forgiving fairways and large greens with beautiful vista views.
